Rounded curves as antidote to sharp World.
This newsletter is simple; a favourites folder of sorts, presented with little embellishment. Some exciting fashion stuff, a few links… let’s all just relax.
In excellent news, Meryll Rogge is the new Creative Director of Marni. I LOVE THIS for us. A woman designing Womenswear, how novel! Meryll was previously at Marc Jacobs before heading up Womenswear at Dries, so she knows what she’s doing. I saw her eponymous line a year ago in Paris and fell head over heels in love with it — I had a visceral, emotional response to the collection. We are getting our first delivery this fall, so we will have Meryll Rogge, and Meryll-helmed Marni in the store at the same time in the very near future and I think that’s lovely.
Things + Thoughts —
Rose hair thickening spray - Spray it on wet hair and use a diffuser to coax texture out of the straightest of strands. Or let it dry naturally in the sun and warm breeze. It’s not crunchy in the slightest.
My favourite part(s?) of my body is(are?) my ankles. They have only let me down once (on a trampoline — my fault, not theirs) and they remain the only part of me I wouldn’t tweak if I could. All this to say, I love an anklet in the summer. I wear this one most days, and this one for razzle dazzle. I’m thinking about adding this one or this one into the mix as well. We sold out of the Santangelo Pronto anklet at AF but I would strongly urge you to order it here.
Scarves are all over your fave Substackers, but they’re on waists as cute skirt belts. I love that, but I’m partial to a scarf in my hair or around my neck. Or maybe tied to my bag (Labubus are a Labummer — try a scarf instead. I will not make fun of people for their Labubus because as Tik Tok star Alicia McCarvel said “that’s Lameanmean” but I want to highlight the glaring, continuing problem the internet has created which is a complete lack of individual style and maybe even independent thought. It’s fine! I’m just saying).
I aspire to have a robust collection of Silk Dries Van Noten Scarves and I am eyeing this one and this one next. I also want this one but for different purposes. This one from Callas is also a nice option. Fishing rod optional.
Get a point and shoot film camera! You don’t have to spend a ton, peruse Etsy and you’ll find something for every price range. It’s just such a treat to get film developed. Especially in the summer with that 7 pm light. Kodak Portra 400 is the film you want because you truly can’t mess it up. If you’re outside, taking pictures of a subject and not a landscape, try Ektar. It’s like looking at a scoop of ice cream that’s just started to soften in the sunlight.
Are you ready for skincare whiplash? I’m now obsessed with Jan Marini (get the starter set - start slowly with the actives). It’s not trendy or chic but it WORKS and I am 100% converted.
This sunscreen makes my skin feel like Butter - I wouldn’t stand a chance in Silence of the Lambs in which the killer targets soft girls with soft skin. Quite literally me. It’s fine for face and body but it feels too heavy on my face.
Next on my list is a silk slip from Sabbia Rosa in Paris. It’s in the 6th, no website but they take orders via DM. Chic! Fingers crossed I make it there in September.
Cou Cou Intimates are the right clothes for the days when clothes are not right. (these pants are excellent). It’s Liv Tyler in Stealing Beauty-esque.
Shop Jude is a beautiful jewelry brand, handmade in Canada that I have been loving. The necklaces are the standouts for me, the wave is an everyday piece that works morning to night, thus satisfying my cost-per-wear needs. For a lighter financial lift, I love Heaven Mayhem. I wear these all the time. Santangelo is a perfect jewelry brand for hot days. Don’t Let Disco feels right right now.
For summer, let’s try Prada colour changing lip balm, a middle-school reminiscent surprise on the lips. Subtle, and infinitely fun to put on.
I’ve been travelling a lot of late, and have a trip to Europe coming up next week. If you travel a lot, a silk eye mask is a worthwhile purchase. I have this one and I cried once when I forgot it at home before my flight to Paris.
I recently recommended the podcast The Outlaw Ocean to friends on a long road trip and I’d do it again. The Ocean truly is the final frontier.
If you don’t already, (and you probably do), follow @JakeTylerBrodsky on instagram for very dreamy, summery, euro-y cooking and eating.
Don’t complain about the heat, it will be snowing in a month.
xx

How am I so behind on Dries scarves
You probably already know this, but the Dries silk foulards all have a complementary fragrance from his collection. It’s so thoughtful and indulgent and is one of the most complete fragrance collections I’ve ever come across.
